Many of us spend a lot of our down time in our yoga or athletic wear and yearn to be as comfortable in the clothes we wear to work. Yoga pants are as comfortable as pants can get. Since the desire for fashion-forward clothing as comfortable as yoga wear is at the heart of my own design philosophy, I recently ordered yoga pants from the popular athletic wear company Prana, and from BetaBrand, which markets its pants as “Yoga pants for work.” I paired them with some of my own tops and jackets to see if they could really go from work outfit to workout.
BetaBrand’s “dress pant yoga pants” are heavier than traditional yoga pants and might be too warm to wear to a yoga class, but they looked great when paired with my super-soft micromodal and tencel top, Faya in Sage. (See pictures above.) With the right jewelry and shoes, this outfit is perfect for many work environments. I ordered the boot-cut BetaBrand pants in Size S Regular and they were too long for me. My bad - I should have checked the size chart: The regular Size S has a 32” inseam. BetaBrand puts belt loops on most of its pants but my top was thick enough that they didn't show through.
Prana’s yoga pants (above) are not marketed for office wear, but I decided to try them out with a work top because I love the way they feel and could comfortably wear them to a yoga or fitness class after work without changing. Prana’s pants are a lighter weight than BetaBrand’s and have top stitching that is more typical of athletic wear than traditional pants. Despite this, I think they could be worn in many work environments. I paired Prana’s Contour yoga pants in Charcoal Heather with a couple of my own tops – Faya in Burgundy, and Freya in Topaz – and with my Aliceanna jacket in Burgundy.
